Print this Article

When learning to fly paper airplanes, you will most likely run into some problems.
Here are some typical paper airplane problems and solutions:

Problem: My paper airplane keeps dive bombing.

Solution: Add elevators or don’t throw it so hard.

Problem: My plane does these loops and crashes to the ground.

Solution: Add or change your ailerons, check your paper airplane for symmetry, or make sure you have a positive dihedral.
(See Glossary for dihedral explanation.
)

Problem: I have an unstable paper airplane.

Solution: Check for a positive dihedral or add vertical fins to your paper airplane’s wings.
(see Glossary for fin explanation.
)

Problem: My paper airplane always turns in the same direction.

Solution: Check for symmetry or raise the aileron on the wing opposite the direction your want your plane to bank or turn.

Problem: My paper airplane always rolls over and flies upside down.

Solution: Lift your wings to get a more positive dihedral.

Problem: My paper airplane has a bumpy ride, like a roller coaster.

Solution: Lower your elevators or add down elevators.
