Hurricane - Paper Airplanes

Hurricane. The Hurricane paper airplane is based on a design by H. Riley Watkins. It has square, symetric wings that are typical of flying wings. It is fairly easy to fold and requires a letter size sheet.

The Hurricane belongs to the category Tumbling and are designed for great lift to give a long, straight and stable flights. The secret is the wide wing spans and the small bodies. Fairly easy to fold but great fun to fly, this square symmetric wing is typical of the Flying Wing style of paper airplanes.

This very symmetric and very square craft is based on divisions by two. It works well with medium to heavy weight paper and is very characteristic of the flying wing style. Start with a letter size sheet.

Start by folding the sheet in half. Bring the two edges together and make a sharp crease. Unfold when you are finished.

THE THROW - Open the plane and adjsut all the angles so both sides are identical. The wings should be flat to slightly downward in dihedral angle. The vertical stabilizers should be straight, even, and vertical when the craft relaxes during flight.

Throw moderate to hard depending on the type of flight. This craft flies very straight and is capable of astonishing maneuvers depending on how hard it is thrown. Throw gently for long straight glides. Throw hard at a sideways angle for looping and acrobatics.
