Banger. The paper banger is a "bang producer" made of paper. It is easy to fold from a sheet of paper. This project is an origami alternative to the noisy whistles/blowers that children love at birthday . The project is so simple that children can fold it. Well title says it all,and i still repeat...kids dont forget to annoy your parents! Fun to make in class when you are bored.
The Largest Origami Banger was made for Paul Jackson, in November, 1980 at the University College, London, successfully folded and banged the classic model made from a paper rectangle 108 ins. by 66 ins.
Its German name is Knalltüte (bang bag).
To use: The measurement 51cm x 35cm (20'' x 14'') is recommended. Hold the banger between thumb and index finger and bring them down on lightning speed with the whole
arm. You hear a loud bang. You have a similar sound if you clap your hands once.
To do it again, push the flap back in and repeat. After a few tries you will soon get the hang of it.
How it works: The air is pressed inside during moving the paper banger downwards and the air suddenly is free when the inner layer is coming out. It is a small explosion.
The trick is to use a fairly large sheet of thin/soft(!) paper. Newspapers work pretty well for this. Do not use the standard paper as for planes and boats. It is too stiff and will not give enough to allow the thing to unfold and create the bang. (Thanks to "Mad Hatter, Germany Hannover" for this comment) Paper FoldingBanger How to fold, How to fly
