Paper Airplanes and Paper Boats |
| Mirage. The Mirage is a excellent paper airplane. I was amazed the first time this left my hands and sailed -- nay -- floated to a perfect landing. The large wing area makes this glider easy to trim and especially graceful in the air. The "landing gear" helps the aircraft stay graceful during landings and on the ground, but I've surprisingly noticed that it seems to fly better with the landing gear "down and dirty" than with those tabs tucked away. | |
| The Thay Hunter. The Thay Hunter is a plane that performs much like the Mirage, except that it flies slightly faster. Leading edge extensions are the short, highly-swept sections of wing root that join it to the fuselage near the nose of the plane. On jets like the F18, they produce vortices over the main wing at high angles of attack that keep it from stalling under high lift. This model is probably much too low for that type of airflow phenomena, but it flies pretty well nonetheless. | |
| The Needle. The Needle, based on the web access logs, have been one of the most popular paper airplane in this page, so here I present the newest addition to the series of hunters. Interestingly, no two of the "hunters" series share the same base folds. Since the Needle is a relative of the classic dart paper airplane, it inherits some pretty bad roll instabilities. Most of the subtle folds at the end of construction should help somewhat, but a careful eye and attention to trim are necessary to help you get some steady flights out of it. | |
| X Hunter. The X Hunter is the leading-edge extension plane with the extra tabs folded into something a bit more menacing than landing gear. Don't forget to wear eye protection around this device. | |
| The Dagger. The Dagger was one of the earliest interceptor planes it´s ever designed. The first was constructed back in 1991, and it remained the most effective plane in this area until the Piranha was designed in 1996. Over short range it is very fast and accurate, the two most important factors in an interceptor plane. With practice I can make it hit a 2cm target most of the time over a range of 3 metres. However, over longer distance its performance rapidly decreases. Even so, if you want to have a Paper Aeroplane War with someone, this isn't a bad plane to use. | |
| The Hunter. The Hunter is a great plane, it has an acceptable level of stability. It can fly reasonably quickly, and can travel over long distances, this plane can fly nice and quick for about 10-15 metres. It flies smoothly and beautifully, and is reasonably reliable. It is simple and accurate plane, an excellent choice for an interceptor if you're playing the paper aeroplane war game! |
