from roughly 30 cm square of white tissue - foil - yellow chiri unryu sandwich paper. you know what inspired me. walking with beasts =P color-changed fangs, belly and eyes. it's a closed back and locked belly model. smilodon was a fierce predator from the pleistocene (1.8 mya to 10,000 years ago) it was as big as recent lion, but more compact and with much more muscular shoulders, neck and forelegs. it was a robust and sturdy beast - it was one of the heaviest cats, as some speciemens of the Smilodon populator could have weighted over 300 kg or even up to 400 kg. the enourmous fangs were a limitation for the animal, it could only eat meat, (if the fang met a bone, it would break) leaving rich carcases for the (now declassed) terror birds like the famous phorusrhacos. but the fangs could be used for cutting the trachea and a cartoid artery, both in one bite, causing an immediate death of the prey. smilodons were native to north america, but as the south continent travelled to the north, it created a joint between the continents, so the cats were enabled to widespread in the south america, while their cousins were cousing trouble in texas and florida. smilodons fed on middle-sized to large herbivores such as macrauchenia. (it somehow resembled a vicugna with a short proboscis, but with overall much stranger appearance.)

Mitanei [20-Jun-2013] Oh wow, great model! can you upload more pictures of the smilodon from some different angles too?
Origamipete [20-Jun-2013] I have tried, but this one looks the best =) you can get the nicest view of it in real life, the other pohos disort the original proportions or just doesn't display it as i would like to show it, but i have maybe not found the right angles of photografing it yet... =p thanks for your comment! i promise folding the macrauchenia and posting a composition shots then! =)
Kai-l [20-Jun-2013] Crazy model! badass :)
Origamipete [19-Jun-2013] Oh thanks! glad you like it! it's a grandpa of your tiger! =p
Akhil oswal [19-Jun-2013] Great!!another prehistoric model!! are you planning to pursue palaeontology or something?? =) excellent model...nice color changes..but locked and color changed belly is the best part for me!! :) i only think the front legs are a little bit short...but i might be wrong...nice work on fangs and pose!
Ihatefog [19-Jun-2013] Totally gorgeous work!
Origamipete [19-Jun-2013] @akhil - plaeontology have been my passion since childhood, so it would be interesting to give it a try! =) to the forelegs - i wanted to bring the model more into action, so i chose this pose. in a different pose, the forelegs could look better/longer. i think it is only an issue of this exact pose... or the head is too big... i don't know =p @ihatefog - thank you very much! =)
Mv origami [19-Jun-2013] Ahhh, yep, it 'fills the bill' for sure!! that guy is going to be saying-''why is he always one upping me?'' it's really great petr. is that a ridge on its back? great tail! great pose and the jaw line is about 1000 times better than... awesome!!!
Akhil oswal [19-Jun-2013] Oh ok..sorry...i love the pose! :) yeah i guess it makes the legs appear shorter...in this stance with the open mouth(great touch btw..great lower jaw) it looks very menacing!
Origamipete [19-Jun-2013] @mike - thank ou very much mike! yes... it has a ridge on the back... =p @akhil - you don't have to be sorry ;-) i am sure i will be able to do something with it just by a little bit of further shaping ;-) thanks for your suggestion! ;c)
Benorigami [18-Jun-2013] Great design and pose! and the paper is perfect for this model! i especially like the head.
Origamipete [18-Jun-2013] Thank you! i have to own up the choice of paper was clear =p glad you liked it ben! =c) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [http://www.flickr.com/photos/petr-stuchly/4265956473/] this is how it all started a year ago... =)
Textori [18-Jun-2013] Magnificent jump! excellent work! petr, i congratulate!

David llanque [17-Jun-2013] Grand design pete's position gives even more life.
Origamipete [17-Jun-2013] Thanks david!
Wilchua [17-Jun-2013] Pete, good details you have on this model. just a suggestion that you might want to reshape the leg and body skinnier. again, you might want to refold if its easier. anyway, keep up the good work!
Arrtemi origami (kor origamist) [17-Jun-2013] Wow, wonderful design! i really like this model.
Origamipete [16-Jun-2013] Thank you guys! @wil - i have already reshaped it. this pose didn't go out as i expected =p i will post photos soon ;-)
Beth's origami [16-Jun-2013] Wow, i am so impressed! it's a fantastic design; i particularly love the head and jaws. i was so surprised to see this, i was expecting a turtle ; )
Origamipete [16-Jun-2013] Thank you beth! turtle has been finished somehow, but it still needs some work ;-)
Shuki.kato [16-Jun-2013] Quite awesome.
Origamipete [16-Jun-2013] Thanks shuki! but not as awesome as your models! =)

Tskorigami [15-Jun-2013] If you want the lyrics for an awesome song, here it is: i scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream how is it?
Origamipete [15-Jun-2013] Pretty cool! have to go and have one! =)
Tskorigami [15-Jun-2013] You mean ice cream?
Tskorigami [15-Jun-2013] Me favorite flavour chocoleate.yum.
Origamipete [15-Jun-2013] Mine is lemon and strawbery =) and straciatella =p
Tskorigami [14-Jun-2013] But i don't think sk's smilodon could reach this level-it's completely hollow, no seam in belly ;-)
Origamipete [14-Jun-2013] But he was first ;-)
Tskorigami [14-Jun-2013] No matter-yours is better than his-and the layers show up on that one...............
Origamipete [14-Jun-2013] Thanks =)
Tskorigami [14-Jun-2013] And his is annoying to fold-a step called ''sink in using existing creases and fold he layers back up is confusing....first of all, how are you supposed tho singk it?and how are you suppodesd to close it after sinking?so i abandoned it.his wizard's definitely better(i sent you them)
Origamist_woo [14-Jun-2013] Wow...fantastic work!
Origamipete [14-Jun-2013] [http://www.flickr.com/photos/tskorigami] yup. kamiya likes this stuff =) [http://www.flickr.com/photos/patrick_the_purple] thank you!
