Question: Is there something I can coat onto paper to protect it and keep its shape?

I make lots of origami objects and I want to make one into a necklace. Is there anything I could coat or spray onto the origami to protect it, make it stronger so it could be put onto a necklace and help it keep its shape? Something that would dry like a second skin but wouldn't make the colour of the paper run? Thank You for any ideas and/or suggestions.
