TITLE: 28 Interlocking Dodecahedrons CREATOR: Structure - Chris Welsh / Base Unit - Thomas Hull (Known as the PHiZZ unit) COMPOSER: Chris Welsh MEDIUM: 840 Uncut Square pieces of Staples Memo Pad Paper 3.4in x 3.4in SIZE: 2 ft. diameter as a circle DATE: 12/16/07 COMMENTS: Notice the cell phone in the middle of the structure, it helps you get an idea of the models overall size. Model is composed of 28 interlocking dodecahedrons. Each dodecahedron is composed of 30 PHiZZ units. As stated earlier, I did not create the PHiZZ unit, Thomas Hull did that. Thank you Mr. Hull.

Hi, i'm an admin for a group called amazing origami, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

I'll try to do it.. any suggestion?

Valegex, in order for me to get the dodecahedrons locked into one another you have to fold each dodecahedron in parts. what do i mean by that.? in your mind divide each dodecahedron into 3 parts, 2 end caps and a middle. in order to get two different dodecahedrons locked into one another, you need to take 2 end caps and insert them into each other. pick one of the end caps and add a middle section to it. so now you have 1 end cap sticking out of another end cap that now has a middle. to finish the dodecahedron with a middle already attached, you will again, need 2 more ends inserted into one another. fit 1 end cap onto the existing dodecahedron that has an end cap and a middle. by doing this your model will now have one completed dodecahedron with end caps on either end to continue the model. sorry, without visuals my notes most sound ridiculous. i will try to snap a few shots of how i interlocked the dodecahedrons.

I love this structure! i'm working on one for myself, in fact, and i'm curious whether you used anything on the interior to re-enforce the circular shape, or if it has enough tension to stay in a nice circle without assistance. awesome work!

Anopensource, the structure will not stay as a perfect circle when standing straight up. it would look more like a smushed oval. the structure in the photograph above is laying on it's side and note standing up. see my other photo's of this model for a better idea.
