Designing your own Paper Airplanes |

The best way to begin designing your own airplanes is to modify my designs. Try adding wing tip fins to an existing design by bending the outermost half inch of the wing up or down. Or make your plane is fuselage taller or narrower, longer or shorter. As you gain experience, you can create your own original designs by using the basic folding combinations shown in this book. Keep in mind that paper airplanes are seldom too nose heavy and they need strength up front where they impact floors, walls, and furniture. So most paper airplanes should have plenty of folded paper in the front of the wings or fuselage. ![]() ![]() Wing tips up and down Others articles of this page, particularly “Why Paper Airplane Crash,” and “The importance of Fine-Tuning,” are good background material, and will help you modify and adjust a new design so it flies properly. When making your own paper airplanes, use typing paper (20-pound bond works well) or regular copier paper. Very light paper tends to be too flimsy, while very heavy paper is difficult to fold. Large sheets make large, but flimsy, paper airplanes. Very small sheets of paper produce small planes that are difficult to stabilize and fly smoothly. Your best bet is the common8 ½-by-11-inch piece of paper. |
